If you buy a hammer and bring it home, it won’t hang pictures in your house by itself. It is merely a tool to help you get that job done.

Teaching our dogs is the same – the tools help us, but they’ll never do the job for you.

Most people struggle with their dog pulling on lead. Many get duped into buying a “no-pull” harness. Some will even claim the harness has made their walks so much better. But simply putting that harness on the dog didn’t teach it how to walk – it only made restraining the dog easier so the walk feels more manageable for the owner. Take the harness off, and it’ll be clear the dog’s actual understanding of expected behaviour on the lead hasn’t changed.

Stop looking for a quick-fix piece of equipment to do the work for you. It doesn’t matter what tool you use if you don’t put in the work to teach your dog something, you’ll see no actual results.
